National Health Center Week being celebrated by community health center

The Greater Prince William Community Health Center will be celebrating the “National Health Center Week” with a three-day event that offers free health screenings, lunch, games and other activities. These very events will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Aug. 13-15.

This weeklong campaign aims to spread awareness regarding the mission and accomplishments of America’s health centers as local solutions for affordable and accessible health care.

According to a news release from the Greater Prince William Community Health Center- many community health centers have been in existence for over 45 years and have been able to successfully reduce income and ethical health disparities throughout the nation, even in the poorest and most challenged communities and regions, according. Nationwide, these centers have resulted in $24 billion annual health system savings, generating a system of preventive medicine to keep patients healthy and reduced unnecessary hospitalizations and unnecessary visits to emergency rooms, the release said.

According to the release, health centers serve more than 22 million nationwide, and are increasingly becoming the provider of multiple choices for many families, whether they are medically insured or not. Studies have also shown that the quality of care at a health center is as good or sometimes even better than private practices.

Dr. Rashid Mohiuddin, medical director of the Greater Prince William Community Health Center said, “When people have a place to go for regular care, they use it and stay healthier. We offer one-stop health care featuring primary care, dental, prenatal and behavioral health all at one location.

“Our patients not only get the care they need under one roof, but they are treated as individuals, with dignity and respect. This is what health care should be, and what we celebrate during National Health Center Week”, he added
