Young British men change their bed sheets every 3 months: Study

Each one of us has priorities in life. Needless to say, the item on top of the list gets maximum attention and the task gets done. The ones low done the list are invariably given the cold shoulder.

If this be the case, changing bed sheets is definitely one item which is low down on the priority list of the average single British man.

Alarming Results
Findings of a new study suggest that young, single British men, aged between 18 and 25, change their bed sheets no more than 4 times in a year. Put differently, the bed sheet gets changed after every 3 months.

The study, based on a survey, was conducted by UK based memory foam mattresses manufacturer, Ergoflex.

“We were quite alarmed at the apparent lack of basic hygiene from some respondents,” Jed MacEwan, a spokesman for Ergoflex was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

Age, gender make a difference
In sharp contrast, single women changed sheets approximately every two and a half weeks while couples tended to swapped linen every two weeks.

17 percent of single men surveyed in the study acknowledged that the dirty bed had the potency to turn off a romantic partner.

The study found that the tendency to change bed sheets was directly linked to age. More than three-fifth of the women 62 percent of women aged between 35 and 50 changed their sheets on average every 7 days.

According to Philip M. Tierno Jr., director of clinical microbiology and immunology at New York University’s Langone Medical Center, bed sheets as well as pillowcases need to be washed once a week in order to thwart respiratory problems and trim down body secretions and bacteria that gather on such items.
