Robin Roberts celebrates her first birthday post her bone marrow transplant

Last year, we all were greatly inspired when Robin Roberts, an anchor in Good Morning America, successfully recovered from her long-suffered breast cancer through a bone marrow transplant. Robin Roberts not only emerged as a fighter but also overcame a deadly disease that most fear of, thanks to her sister Sally Ann without whom the bone marrow transplant wouldn’t have been even possible.

When Roberts first got aware about her myelodysplastic syndrome diagnosis, a disease of the blood and bone marrow, she was quoted saying, ‘I can beat this.’ And now, she celebrates her birthday as her ‘First Birthday’ as she was gifted the gift of life once again.

Robin Roberts also said- “Unlike my first first birthday — which of course I don’t remember — this time around I know I will never forget all the people who have reached out to me over the past year. Your words of encouragement, smiling faces, and prayers have carried me through the toughest times. I know
that I would not have made it to this milestone without you.”

Robin Roberts wrote in a blog post– “I learned when I was first diagnosed with MDS that many in the transplant community consider the anniversary of their bone marrow transplant to be their new birthday.” So now we know why this birthday was called the first birthday.

We wish you a very happy birthday and with it a long and healthy life ahead!
