A day after Haryana health department launched the Iron Folic Acid scheme, the Health department sources told the media on Wednesday that almost 100 students of Nathra High Madrassa fell ill after comsuming iron tablets that were provided to them by health workers in Diamond harbour in South 24 Parganas district. The girls complained of severe headache, stomach pain and illness after having the given iron tablets.
The girl students have been admitted to Basuldanga Panchgram Block Hospital from where some of the students are being shifted to Diamond Harbour Hospital, the sources stated.
Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) of South 24 Parganas Shikha Adhikary said that health team is being rushed to the area to treat the girl students.
However the officials of the Gurgaon health department said that they
did not expect such a high number of students falling sick. They called the illness to be “psychological”, and attributed more similar examples
in the number of cases that were related to panic and lack of awareness.
