Beware of heart disease! This is a warning for all Indians! A new survey has highlighted that heart disease may be proclaimed as the number one reason for death and may be labeled as the main killer for Indians.

Heart disease is a killer

This is certainly not very heartening news for the Indians and they better start getting careful about their diet and their medical check-ups, as heart disease is now being stated as the real reason for death amongst Indians. India is a heavily populated country with a population of more than 1.2 billion people and the country accounts for almost 60 percent of patients succumbing to heart diseases out of the world’s population.

Survey study by ICMR and RGI

A latest study done by the Indian Council of Medical Research ICMR and Registrar General of India (RGI) states that considering data from all age groups, 19 percent deaths occur because of diseases of the heart and almost 25 percent of the registered deaths falling in the age group of 25-60 years of age are due to medical conditions of the heart.

The data includes both males and female population and covers all the various regions of India. There is no doubt about it that the leading cause of this death rate is heart disease.

WHO viewpoint

Even more shocking are the World Health Organization speculations. The presumptions of the World Health Organization is that nearly 20 million people will succumb to the dreaded heart related disorders by the year 2015, and the population of Indian subcontinent need a special mention in this. They fear that heart related disorders are especially widespread amongst the people of the Indian subcontinent.

About 25 percent of the heart attacks in this population have shown up in people under 40 years of age and half of all the heart attacks calculated are in the people falling less than 50 years of age.
With the astonishing figures gathered it can be estimated that the Indian population will show up almost 1.6 million heart strokes annually by 2015.

These strokes may result in disabilities in nearly one third of the people with heart disorders. So it is essential that something is done about this.

To take care of the concerning thought the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) has collected famous and well-known thought leaders in the areas of Cardiology, Diabetes, and Stroke to launch educational “Networks”. They will be imparting high quality tips for medical education to doctors in the US who are basically of Indian Origin.
