Bihar mid-day meal tragedy: Accused principal in police custody

The absconding principal of the government school that claimed the lives of 23 children eight days ago, was finally arrested by the police today.

Sujeet Kumar, head of the special investigation team and Saran district superitendent of police said that the accused principal who had absconded after the mid-day meal tragedy was arrested from Chhapra town.

Kumar told reporters that the investigation and interrogation with the principal is on, and new highlights will be made soon after the detailed interrogation is complete.

‘Meena Devi, the absconding principal of Dharmasati Gandaman primary school in Chhapra in Saran district, has been arrested and she did not surrender’, said the State Police chief Abhyanand who was present at the CM’s press meet.

Earlier today, Meena Devi had filed an anticipatory bail application in the court of CJM Chhapra which however did not prove to be of any help.

A probe report set by Saran Commissioner Shashi Shekhar Sharma and DIG Vinod Kumar that was submitted to the government found the principal responsible for the death of the infants.

An FIR has been registered under 302 (murder) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) including other charges, the DGP stated.
